Tortured Monkey Films is a documentary film company interested in the themes of human rights, global civil war, (un-)sustainable development, autonomous communities, fair trade, environmental degradation, and alternative economies. We welcome collaboration with independent media networks that promote progressive change. Current works in progress: "Galapagos Now!" and "Post"
Out of the waste and fertilizer of the old dinosaurs of state governments, a different kind of globalization is taking place. In regions where neoliberal structural adjustment programs, foreign capital, or socialist repression have crippled economies, a New Humanism is emerging. For it to become more widespread however, the energy needed isn't fossil fuel, but biopower, and communication of what different communities seek and have to offer. To succeed where the dinosaurs have foundered, the human labor must be committed to the cause, not to receive some secondary reward, but to reap the direct benefit of their work and to lead a meaningful, productive existence.
The film before us will chart a global course of the new centers of not only peaceful resistance to globalization and totalitarianism, but the production of alternative humanist economies that are sustainable in design. There should be no -ism other than humanism, nor a central hub, but a network that fosters more productive, sustainable, and supportive/cooperative communities.
